Welcome to the
Forest of Galtres Primary School.

The Forest of Galtres Primary School is an attractive rural school situated on the outskirts of York. It was built in 1986 to replace three Victorian Village Schools at Shipton, Newton and Tollerton.

Ours is an Anglican/Methodist Controlled School, and is unique - being the only one of its type in North Yorkshire.

The school serves a wide area and children from Newton, Tollerton and Beningbrough are bussed to school. There are 190 children on roll, aged 4-11 years, organised into seven classes.

There is a central hall used for assemblies, physical education and meals. We have our own kitchen and prepare meals on site. There is also an administration block, resource centre, music annexe, well stocked library and an ICT suite.

Outside there are large playing fields, an infant playground with fortress and lots of toys, a junior playground which also serves as a tennis court, a climbing wall for our juniors and a purpose built play area for the youngest children. There is also a wildlife area.

We believe we have an ideal setting for children to develop both as individuals and as members of the school and its community.
